ABOUT EL CIELO
RESTAURANT CONCEPT
At El Cielo, we believe dining is more than a meal—it is an experience that connects cultures, traditions, and people. Opened in 2023 in the heart of Waikīkī, El Cielo is the vision of Chef Masa Arnaldo Gushiken, whose life journey from Argentina to Japan, Spain, and Hawai‘i inspires every dish on our menu.
Born in Buenos Aires to Okinawan-Japanese parents, Chef Masa’s culinary path has taken him across the globe—from training in Tokyo, to immersing himself in the flavors of Spain, to shaping Honolulu’s dining scene. His cooking blends the soul of Argentina, the discipline of Japan, and the vibrancy of Spain, creating a dining experience that is both authentic and uniquely personal.
El Cielo, meaning “the sky” or “heaven” in Spanish, reflects our philosophy: limitless creativity and the joy of sharing food that tells a story. Our menu celebrates the traditions of Spain with paellas, tapas, and pintxos, while weaving in subtle influences from Chef Masa’s multicultural heritage. Every plate is crafted with precision, passion, and heart.
Since opening, El Cielo has been recognized as one of Honolulu’s most exciting new restaurants, earning Best New Restaurant in the 2024 Hale ʻĀina Awards. More than accolades, however, our greatest honor is welcoming guests—locals and visitors alike—into our dining room to share in the warmth of hospitality and the celebration of flavor.
At El Cielo, we invite you to journey with us: to taste, to discover, and to savor the beauty of food without borders.
